Silent Royal Flight

"Silent Royal Flight"   Maleko ©2012   9x7 inches
Colored pencils on white paper, border added using PicMonkey
(A different version of this drawing posted next week for Halloween!)

for themselves they have seen my strength
watched me rise from darkness into light

a silent royal flight wings dripping blood

chasing the last of them from the earth

the demon monsters bound in chains

hunting through the dark of night

sending them fleeing one by one

cast down to a shadowy death

the fate they had earned

The Face?

During an evening walk with my daughter I was taking pictures of the sunset in a forest in Western Washington.  Upon returning home and editing the pictures for uploading I noticed something peculiar.  The sun appears to be perched on the top of the wooden stump but just to the lower left of the sun there appears to be a face peering out from in the leaves of the trees?

The first picture is the original with no editing except for a drop shadow border.
This picture below highlights the area where the face seems to appear with the rest of the surrounding area blurred out.
What do you think?  Was something staring at us from the forest?

Wearing Masks

"Wearing Masks"   ©Maleko 2012
5x6.5 inches  ~  Watercolor Pencils and Pastels  ~  Drop shadow border added using PicMonkey

This picture of three horse heads in vibrant colors struck me as looking like masks that were being worn while something devious is being planned.  What could that be?  What is being said?  What are they trying to hide?     Better question what do we hide behind the masks we wear in our daily lives?

I only ask to be free.  The butterflies are free.  ~Charles Dickens

"Just living is not enough," said the butterfly, "one must have sunshine,
freedom and a little flower."  ~Hans Christian Andersen

Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which,
if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.  ~Nathaniel Hawthorne

The butterfly is a flying flower, The flower a tethered butterfly.
~Ponce Denis Écouchard Lebrun

The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough.
~Rabindranath Tagore

We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone
through to achieve that beauty.  ~Author Unknown

I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly,

or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man.  ~Chuang Tzu

4th of July

"Wings of Life"   Pastels & Colored Pencils on black paper
©Maleko 2012

I am proud to be an American and celebrate our country on the 4th of July. But more than this
I am a child of God first, with an assurance of eternal life no matter what this life here on
earth may bring.  I am thankful that I have the freedom to worship Jesus. God Bless!

Zebra Collage Using PicMonkey

A collage of my zebra drawings put together using the website PicMonkey which states on their website "Fearless photo embetterment."  Mainly designed for photographers, but it works great for fine artists also.  PicMonkey has a multitude of tools just like any of the best photography software that is available, but amazingly it is free to use!

PicMonkey includes some of the following photo editing tools -
  • Many collage templates
  • Frames and Borders
  • Image Cropping
  • Exposure Adjustments
  • Color Effects
  • Picture Resizing
  • Skin Touch Up
  • Text and Overlays
  • Textures
Play around with the many different options and have fun!  It's great and respond how you like it in the comments below!

A Yellow Maze

"A Yellow Maze     ©Maleko 2012    Colored Pencil on Black Paper (Paint Shop Pro border added)   12x9 inches

“I asked the Zebra,
are you black with white stripes?
Or white with black stripes?
And the zebra asked me,
Are you good with bad habits?
Or are you bad with good habits?
Are you noisy with quiet times?
Or are you quiet with noisy times?
Are you happy with some sad days?
Or are you sad with some happy days?
Are you neat with some sloppy ways?
Or are you sloppy with some neat ways?
And on and on and on and on and on and on he went.
I’ll never ask a zebra about stripes...again.”

Shel Silverstein

Playing around with colors on the same design of a mother zebra grazing while keeping a watchful eye out for her young foal.  Everyone has seen a black and white zebra, but a one of color?  That would make us stop and take a second look, right?  Which one is your favorite? ~M

Sins Repeated

Believing the whispered lies as hearts spiral down ~ the sweet poison ~ penalties for sins repeated ~ on wings love rises from the ashes ~ light breaks darkness ~ forgiveness for the sins repeated

Lives lie still in disarray
"Stillness"
"Glory Rising"
Hopes lie quiet in turmoil
Grace fills hearts in pain
Mercy fills souls in need
Passion is ignited in flame
Love is forged in fire

As my heart beats
Worlds collide at dawn
Eclipsing the dark horizon
Forged in eternal fires
Brilliant rays of light
Reaching arms to hold
Wounded hearts of man
