A watercolor painting of a cat staring intently towards a bright light that appears to be just off the page, indifferent to what ever may be occurring behind him.  The red stocking hat points to the holiday season and the light represents the reason we celebrate Christmas.  From the first Christmas day when a star heralded a miraculous birth and the coming of a Savior that split time in two.  

May we also point our lives, moment by moment towards the source of that light.  

May we live only for His glory.

Standing Firm

This design portrays the state of my life right now as I am simply standing firm while around me swirls uncertainty and confusion. But sometimes all we can do is to stand firm while the storm rages around us with a belief that the clouds will part and the sun will shine again.

The backdrop has no specific images or shapes just swirling colors to evoke that feeling of movement while in the center the horse stands quiet with a strong and resolute purpose.  The image of the horse contains many sharp edges to not only define the outline of the horses features but to show the jagged edges that exist inside of each of us that will not only hurt the ones we love but ourselves as well.  

This was painted using evaporated milk instead of water which gives a texture to the surface of the colors on the paper.  This a larger piece of paper than I normally use but like the freedom it gives in working on a larger scale.  The border was added using Corel Paint Shop Pro to the digital image.

This horse seems to me to be 'simply curious' as the 
tilt of the head and the eye indicate he is looking 
at something below him but what?

I love the way this painting came out as the mare (I assume she is a female) is glancing over her right shoulder as she peers from behind her mane as it is blown across her face by the wind.  The eye and the tilt of the head and the blue colors convey the emotion of the moment.  What are her intentions?

The original painting (above on the left) measures 7" x 9" and was done using watercolor pencils on white watercolor paper. The a border was added using Paint Shop Pro.  The image above on the right is the sepia version using Paint Shop Pro with a black border and the image below is the negative image of the original. I love the different feelings the colors evoke.
